FinExpertiza Global Conference 2026: IFRS 18 in theory and practice
In his address Muhammad Haroon (Qatar) reviewed the practical implications of IFRS 18, the new standard on presentation and disclosure in financial statements, which replaces IAS 1 with regard to the structure and presentation of financial statements.
The speaker explained how the standard introduces a clearer structure for reporting income and expenses, with five categories and two new required subtotals designed to make companies’ financial performance easier to understand and compare.
Mr. Haroon also discussed the disclosure of management-defined performance measures, such as adjusted EBITDA, and how companies must explain their relationship to figures reported under IFRS. He illustrated the application of the new requirements in Qatar, connecting the standard’s provisions with local reporting practice.
